"This collaboration is an important step forward in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in sports," says Prof. Dr. Stefan Brunner, cardiologist and head of sports medicine at LMU Hospital. "Together, we can provide the best possible support to patients, athletes, and families." Cardiology and sports medicine at LMU Hospital enjoy an international reputation in the research and treatment of heart disease.
Veit Hesse, managing director of MTV, adds: "With LMU, we have a strong partner at our side who supports our vision of promoting health through popular sports." Founded in 1879, Turn-Verein München is one of Munich's largest and most traditional sports clubs, offering a wide range of health and rehabilitation sports.
A core project of the cooperation is the establishment of specialized cardiac sports groups at MTV Munich. Patients with cardiovascular diseases are cared for under the expert guidance of specially trained instructors. The LMU Clinic provides medical support and refers patients to the program.
The partners have also agreed on a comprehensive package of measures for mutual promotion:
- Display of informational materials in the respective facilities
- Joint lecture series on heart health and sports medicine
- Coordinated public relations across all communication channels
- Development of innovative prevention services
- Collaboration in physical therapy treatment
Prof. Brunner considers the cooperation to be a significant step forward in popular sports. "Sport contributes significantly to heart health and significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, in the case of existing conditions such as heart failure or after a heart attack, medical supervision should be provided to ensure that the level of exertion is individually tailored."
